Margaret Monahan, Director of Project CHILDD, presented Nick with the award at the annual senior awards ceremony at Pelham Memorial High School on May 31st.
Each year, Project Community gives the Award of the Heart to a PMHS senior who has volunteered as a mentor for Project CHILDD, which serves children with developmental disabilities and their families. This year’s recipient, Nick, has been an outstanding teen mentor for a number of years.
According to Margaret, (who is one of Nick’s biggest fans) –
“Nick has worked with a number of participants, assisting them with arts and crafts, yoga and movement programs, as well as teaching life skills and supporting appropriate behaviors. He has done so without holding back and as more “senior” mentors have gone on to college, Nick, naturally, and without hesitation, moved into a leadership position within the group, assisting other mentors and modeling best behavior practices for other teens as well. In working with us, Nick was also able to help us provide respite for the parents of our participants.”
The Charles Fazzino Award of the Heart was named in honor of the international pop artist whose sensitivity to community needs has made him a valued friend of Project Community, Inc. for over 30 years. Charles Fazzino is an internationally renowned 3D pop artist whose work is in hundreds of museums and galleries throughout the world, including a spectacular installation at JFK’s Terminal 8.
Project Community is grateful for Mr. Fazzino’s generous (and extremely beautiful!) donation and for his continued support of Project CHILDD. ❤️
